About Us

Honouring Our Journey.
Growing for the Future.

For more than two decades, Amiskwaciy Cultural Society has had the privilege of walking alongside Indigenous children and families in Edmonton.

Our story has grown through the relationships we have built, the families who have trusted us, the children who have filled our classrooms, and the cultural teachings that continue to guide our work.

Amiskwaciy was built upon a simple but powerful belief:

Every Indigenous child deserves the opportunity to begin life surrounded by culture, belonging, love and possibility.

That belief remains at the heart of everything we do.

Our story is not measured only in years, programs or places. It is found in the moments that matter:

  • The first friendship made in a classroom.
  • The first word spoken with confidence.
  • The first song learned in Cree.
  • A child discovering pride in who they are.
  • A family realizing they have found a place where they are welcomed, respected and supported.

Over the years, our programs have continued to grow and evolve alongside the needs of our children, families and community. We have strengthened partnerships, expanded supports and embraced new approaches to early learning while remaining grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, relationship-based practice and the cultural foundation of Aboriginal Head Start.

Today, Amiskwaciy Cultural Society provides much more than an early learning program. We create spaces where children can learn through play, culture, language, relationships and experience; where families are recognized as their children’s first and most important teachers; and where Elders, Knowledge Keepers, staff and community help create a strong circle of support around every child.

Our classrooms, family visits, cultural experiences, meals, transportation and everyday conversations all contribute to that circle. Together, they create an environment where children can develop confidence, curiosity, resilience and pride in who they are.

As Amiskwaciy continues to grow, our commitment remains unchanged: to honour where we have come from, respond thoughtfully to the needs of families today, and help create strong beginnings for the generations still to come.

Our story continues to be written every day by our children, our families, our staff, our Elders and our community.
