Our Governance
How We Approach Governance
Strong governance is not only about policies and oversight. It is also about how decisions are made and how responsibility is carried.
Amiskwaciy Cultural Society strives to approach governance through the following principles.
- 01
Accountability
We accept responsibility for the decisions we make and for the stewardship of the resources entrusted to the Society.
- 02
Respect
We value different perspectives, encourage thoughtful discussion and approach Board relationships with professionalism and respect.
- 03
Integrity
We act honestly, ethically and in the best interests of the Society.
- 04
Transparency
We support clear governance processes, responsible reporting and appropriate communication with members, funders and community.
- 05
Cultural Respect
We recognize the importance of Indigenous cultural protocols, teachings, relationships with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and the protection of Traditional Knowledge and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property.
- 06
Collective Responsibility
Directors bring individual perspectives to the table, but Board authority belongs to the Board collectively.
- 07
Children & Families at the Centre
Governance decisions are made with consideration for the long-term wellbeing of the Indigenous children, families and communities the Society exists to serve.
