Aboriginal Head Start
in Edmonton

Aboriginal Head Start is the program delivered by Amiskwaciy Cultural Society — a culturally grounded early learning program for Indigenous children and their families.

Aboriginal Head Start supports children through early learning grounded in culture, language and relationships. Programming brings together education, culture and language, health promotion, nutrition, social support and family involvement, with Elders and Knowledge Keepers helping create a circle of support around every child.

The program operates from sites across Edmonton and includes classroom learning, family visits, cultural experiences, meals, transportation and therapeutic supports.

The day-to-day operation of Aboriginal Head Start is entrusted to the Executive Director and program leadership team. The Board of the Amiskwaciy Cultural Society holds responsibility for the Society’s governance, strategic direction and organizational accountability.
