Our Governance

Different Roles.
Shared Purpose.

Strong organizations depend on clear roles.

The Board

The Board is responsible for governance. This includes mission, policy, strategic direction, financial stewardship, major organizational risk and oversight of the Executive Director.

The Executive Director

The Executive Director is responsible for organizational leadership and operations, including staff management, program delivery, funding implementation, partnerships and organizational performance.

Management & Program Teams

Management and program teams are responsible for carrying that work into daily practice through programming, family services, cultural learning, transportation, nutrition, therapeutic supports and administration.

This distinction allows the Board to remain focused on the long-term health and accountability of the Society while giving the Executive Director and staff the authority needed to effectively operate the organization.

Important governance principle

The Board’s direct employment relationship is with the Executive Director. Individual Directors do not supervise employees, assign staff work or become involved in routine operational matters unless specifically authorized by the Board for a defined purpose.
