Our Board
Supporting the Work of the Board
The Board may establish standing committees or temporary committees to support more detailed work in areas requiring focused attention.
Committees operate under Board-approved Terms of Reference and support the Board by reviewing information, considering issues and making recommendations. Unless specific authority has been formally delegated, committees do not replace the authority of the full Board.
Depending on the Society’s current governance structure, committees may support areas such as:
- Finance and financial oversight
- Governance and policy
- Board development and recruitment
- Strategic planning
- Risk management
- Executive Director support and evaluation
Advisory circles
The Society may also establish advisory circles or other advisory bodies to bring cultural, family and community perspectives into its work. The Society’s Bylaws contemplate advisory structures such as Elder, family, youth and cultural advisory groups.
